Have you ever put your foot in it as a kid and your parents gave you the “I’m not angry at you… I am just disappointed” line?
Do you think that’s how the St Kilda coach must have addressed his players at halftime as the Hawks simply did as they pleased against a Saints outfit that clearly was not up for the fight?
As someone on the outside looking in, that’s how I felt. The Hawks were simply better in every facet of the game in the first half, and even though the Saints showed a bit of fight in the second half, it was painfully evident, despite Fox Footy’s best efforts to convince us it could still be a contest, that this one was over.
The Saints seemed to be on a never-ending journey to find a matchup that worked for them, as they were outclassed all over the field by a Hawthorn team that really should have been further in front than their 50-point margin.
And it should have been a 56-point margin, if not for an umpire deciding to make it all about him – again!
From there, it was largely just playing out time, as the Hawks answered any St Kilda challenge with ease, running out winners by 52.
