As we hit the quarter time break in the second St Kilda road game in a row, it looked as though the Saints were clearly on a mission to make Adelaide a happy hunting ground.
And they were genuinely hunting the Crows to open things up.
A blistering first term saw them dominate possession, as they opened up a 20 point lead. Something had to change, and fast, for the Crows. They were being outworked and out-hustled at every position, with the St Kilda defence collecting extraordinary amounts of the footy.
And it did change, with Adelaide roaring back to life on the back of a rookie, a hard-working defence sparked into action, and an old fella who is now not that far away from joining the 700-goals Club.
Taylor Walker was sublime after quarter time, and his matchup with Cal Wilkie reflected the tone of this contest. He finished with five, including the one to push Adelaide out to the final lead of the game in a performance that is right up there with his best, all things considered.
Ah yes, there was controversy, there were moments some players would like to have over again, and there were heroics aplenty, and it is my job to sift through them all to give you the most comprehensive wrap up of the Crows’ thrilling win over St Kilda in Round Six.
Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Statements.
This is just the introduction – the remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.
Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
