It’s hard to know where to start with this review. Do you start with the positive, or do you focus in on the negative?
I’m feeling pretty happy, so let’s go with the positive – the Cats were dominant against the Bulldogs at Kardinia Park, pounding them from the opening siren. Jeremy Cameron exposed the Dogs’ defence, whilst the Geelong midfield ran over and through their Bulldog counterparts to give their forward line very chance of kicking a big score.
This’ll be a great test of where the AFL Media is at, actually. Do they focus on the fact that Jezza Cameron snagged ten goals – how often does that happen these days? Or is the story for them the injury to Sam Darcy, and the doom and gloom of the Bulldogs?
I think we already know the answer to that, don’t we?
Bad news sells newspapers and generates clicks.
With Marcus Bontempelli completely shut down by Oisin Mullin, the Cats cruised to a 75-point win on their home deck, and but for a sleepy third quarter, it should have been more.
Lots to get through in this one – both good and bad – let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
This is just the introduction – the remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.
Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
