R6 – Western Bulldogs v St KIlda – The Big Questions

There was a lot on the line in this one. In truth, coming into this game I was a big believer that both teams were far better than their 2-3 record suggested, but there was always going to be some pretty heavy fallout for one of them after this game;

And so, on a Thursday night at Marvel Stadium, two clubs clashed with only one looking as though they will go on to play September footy.

It’s a long way off to be making statements like that, but as we get a little deeper into the season, a 2-4 record drops a team into the abyss, with the likes of the Eagles, Kangaroos, and Hawks. Maybe the Tigers, too.

This is now where the Saints find themselves. It’s a long road back from here.

As for the winners, the Dogs were comprehensively better. They ran the footy off half back with the type of precision Saints fans were hoping to see from their own elite ball users, and made the transition from defence to attack look easy.

In the end, a ten-goal win to the Dogs probably flattered the Saints a little. Whenever St Kilda started to rouse, the Dogs rocked them back to sleep with a couple of goals to re-establish their dominance. It was one of those contests where everything worked for one team and nothing worked for the other. Games like that often result in big margins, and this one was no different.

Let’s jump into the details from this one with The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
