Fremantle v Geelong – Mongrel Talking Points

There may be a few people that owe the Fremantle Dockers an apology.

If we rewind just under a month, they were coming off a loss to the Brisbane Lions and sitting with a record of 2-5. The team that captured the imagination of many in 2022 and coined the phrase ‘Flagmantle’ looked as though they were struggling to get going. Something had to change and change quickly.

Back to the current, and Freo have rattled off three-straight wins to square the ledger and thrust themselves back into the conversation around finals.

We can discount the win over Hawthorn – everyone wins against the Hawks – but the other two wins have come against last year’s Grand Finalists, with the win over the Cats this weekend possibly being the best of the bunch.

Playing this game under the Indigenous name of Walyalup, the Dockers played a tough brand of footy against the visitors and sent them packing with a strong 29-point win. In the process of re-establishing themselves as a legitimate team in 2023, they also opened the Cats up for criticism, as well.

Down on personnel, Geelong have dropped a couple in a row and now sit on edge of the top eight and looking for some home cooking next week against the Giants.

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Talking Points from this one.
