As a precursor to this series, I’d like to quickly mention that these full games are rare. It’s sad that the history of the game has been lost by the custodians who were either careless, or foolish with the history of the game to the point where home and away games prior to 1990 have been completely lost.

It is through the diligence and commitment of individual collectors and footy historians that I have been able to track down these vintage games in order to have a record for our site.

The blame for this lies partially with the AFL, whose mandate to the broadcaster at the time (who I will get to) was to preserve the finals series games. To put it bluntly, it was a stupid, short-sighted mandate that abandoned the history of the game to secure a fat paycheck as the VFL became the AFL.
