Success does funny things to a supporter base, doesn’t it?
Rewind a decade, and a Richmond team dropping games wouldn’t rankle the Tiger faithful the way it is right now. These days, they expect more, demand more, from their club, and the expectations are no longer tempered by decades of failure.
That was cast aside as the Richmond Football Club made good on their promise, and stormed to three flags in four years.
They were the “it” team of the league, and they possessed the “it” player, fending off and stiff-arming opponents into oblivion.
But that was then.
Since the glory days, the club has seen favourite sons depart, retire, and fall into the rhythm of playing in a rebuilding team. It hasn’t been overly pretty, and even as Richmond fans remain aware that rebuilding was always going to take time, there is an element of agitation amongst the yellow and black army.
They had a taste, and now they want more.
