Last weekend, these teams were at completely opposite ends of the spectrum.
Port looked horrible as the Crows ran all over them in Mount Barker. Meanwhile, the Saints demonstrated enormous heart, digging in to overcome Carlton.
What a difference a week makes.
In the last hit out before the real stuff starts, it was Port who looked cherry ripe for the 2025 season, and the Saints who looked like they’d just rolled out of bed after a big night on the turps.
Port were clinical with the wind and against it. The Saints were inept. Port wanted the footy, and attacked it like they knew they had to get things together. St Kilda attacked it like they had another month of match sim before their first round.
Given the level of skill/attitude, the result went as expected, with Port cruising to a 44-point win, and holding the Saints to just one goal in the whole first half of footy.
Plenty to get through in this one, as HB takes a deep dive into the game, and what went down, with The Mongrel’s Talking Points.
