Everything is fine…
That’s what they tell themselves as the house burns down around them in the AFL.
There have been more than a couple of supporter groups spouting these lines over the 2024 season as their teams fall into a hole and look anything but contenders.
For some, like the Lions, Magpies, and Hawks, the slumps came at the beginning of the season.
For others, like GWS, Geelong, and Port, there were periods in the middle where doubt surrounded their performance.
And now, as we enter the run home, there are question marks over the form line of the Swans, Blues, and Bombers, with the latter two now scratching and clawing to secure a position in the final eight.
It’s been that kind of season, but with three games to go, there are going to be some pretty disappointed supporter bases once the final siren sounds on the home and away season, and their mob is sitting outside the top eight.
Let’s have a look at some of the lies we’re telling ourselves in 2024.
