R17 – Essendon v Collingwood – The Big Statements

There was a bit of a feeling in footy circles this week that the Bombers were slipping.

I’m sure you would have heard it – it was mentioned on every footy-related radio progam, talked about on TV shows, and god forbid you spoke to an opposition supporter – they would have told you and not let up until they were sure they got their point across.

According to them, the Bombers were in trouble!

With three losses in their last four games, and their only win coming against West Coast, the vultures were circling – was this team the real deal, or were we looking at an Essendon side on the verge of another capitulation in the second half of the season?

Make no mistake – this was a mini-final. This was the type of clash that makes or breaks a club in the context of the season. And with a 12-point win in front of 81,000 people, we found our answers about the Bombers.
