Alastair Clarkson is never far away from a headline. I am sure North supporters would prefer they were for different reasons, but when you hire a firebrand as a coach, and the face of a club, you take the good with the bad. And to this point, there has been more bad than good.
The recent furore about Clarkson swearing on the bench set the usual bunch of suspects off.
“Recidivist,” they cried.
“Ban him,” they added.
Trial by media, and trial by social media once again took centre stage, as the embattled North Melbourne coach once again found himself in the firing line. Sensible supporters sat back and waited, wanting to know details before hanging a bloke out to dry again (where are the people who wanted Jordan de Goey delisted after his Bali trip?)
The AFL did their due diligence on the boundary line incident. They ran their investigation, and they found that they could not accurately ascertain whether Clarkson was swearing in general, or swearing at an official.
Storm in a tea cup… time to move on, right?
Usually, yes. However, I don’t know about you, but there sure seems to me to be a bit of an agenda within the media at the moment, and it centres on targeting the North Melbourne coach. It’s a shame they’re able to continually find additional ammunition to fire at him.
