R11 – Another Draw – Fremantle v Collingwood – HB’s Loves and Hates

Footy is a funny game… not that many were laughing as the Dockers came from the clouds to secure a draw in a contest that looked completely gone halfway through the last quarter. Draws have this habit of making everyone feel like a bit of a loser, and to be fair, feeling that way was probably justified in this game.

It really felt like the Pies were preparing to celebrate their latest road win, and believe me, I was bitterly disappointed with the way Fremantle had performed for all but about fifteen minutes of the game up until about ten minutes to play in the last quarter. Collingwood had done the hard work through the third quarter. They had the lead, had the game in hand, and looked likely to run out winners on the road.

However, a charity free kick to Sean Darcy right in front of goal, awarded when Lachie Sullivan didn’t give the ball directly back to the umpire (I kid you not), saw Freo goal, and the Dockers got a real sniff.

Freo kicked the last four goals of the game and had the chance to hit the front when Jeremy Sharp ran into goal and missed. No shade intended at Sharp – he was one of the Dockers’ best all game, but his miss tied the scores up and gave the Pies one more chance to go forward. They did, but the Dockers were able to tie things up and the scores remained locked at 75 apiece.

There is so much to get through in this game. So much to love. Plenty to hate. My guess is that you can guess what at least one of the topics we’re going to cover is, right?

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Loves and Hates.
