So, maybe I hold a little more sway than I previously expected. I gave the Blues and Suns a pump-up (albeit both of them having a lot at stake) and they won their games – just. The main one was the nightmare scenario of further ACL’s – note to self, don’t talk about injuries again. I do not want to be responsible for anything.
If you decide to base your multi off this, and it fails, I’ve warned you already that that is risky. I won’t be to blame. This is purely for fun, and to see how I go. Feel free to message the page or comment on the previous week’s version if you have any thoughts.
I’ve taken inspiration from AFL360 with some of these, because, well, it’s fun to forecast what could happen. So, strap yourselves in for the Prophet’s Predictions for Round Two.
The Guarantee
Port to salute Travis Boak in game 350 with an emphatic win over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
The Ultimate Nightmare (Worst Case Scenario)
The Tasmanian State election ends in a Labor victory and they rescind the build order for the stadium, rendering the Tassie license null and void … thus making themselves the most hated people in Australia.
The Outsider (unexpected winner)
On form, the Dogs are shaky and the Suns are shining. This weekend and a trip to Ballarat presents a fascinating tale. Can the Dogs silence the critics and show that they still can challenge, or do the Suns finally stamp themselves on the competition? Until they break the trend away from home, I’m not trusting the Suns. The Dogs need to respond.
The Money Maker (Bold Call)
This is subject to his radar being accurate, and becoming as reliable as a Toyota Camry, but I’m backing Max King to kick 5+ goals against a struggling Magpie defence.
Most at Stake (Vulnerable)
Brisbane against the bye. The Lions will want to come out of this weekend on top.
Seriously though, the Dockers and the Power are away from home. To solidify their credentials, they need to come to Melbourne confident and leave with the four points. They’ll go in as favourites in their respective games. Time for them to follow through on that.
The Must Watch (match up or game)
Multiple games draw one’s eye this weekend, with early ramifications for finals – yes, I’ve said the F word heading into round two.
Based on many factors, Thursday Night is a must-watch game. It could end any aspirations the Pies have of becoming a dynasty. If they lose, go to 0-3, and then head to Brisbane against the Lions … I’m thinking it might be 2024 done. To be clear: if the Saints win Thursday night, then stick a fork in the Pies; they’re stuffed!
The Unexpected (underdog performance)
Expect James Sicily to be on his best behaviour, to have copped a rev from Sam Mitchell this week, and to therefore lead the way for the Hawks. While I don’t expect the brown and gold to win, I expect Sicily to remind everyone how good he is (aside from the chaotic indiscretions).
The Don (player of the round)
I’m reluctant to blow up the Cats’ game plan and any semblance of form we have, but I’m not sure that Crom has a great matchup for Jezza Cameron. Expect him to get another 20+ disposals and four majors to be the difference.
The Underboss (rookie of the round)
Darcy Wilson looked very comfortable in the top flight last weekend. I’m going to back him in to match or exceed last week’s output and end up with the Rising Star nod.
Individual Brilliance (predicting a stat accomplishment like x goals or marks)
While there’s not a lot of evidence (only one weekend) I seemed to put the moz on Brodie Grundy. So, I’m expecting things to not turn around and for whoever I pick here to falter. The question is, do I use that for Geelong’s benefit, or be serious?
I choose world domination. I’m expecting Sam Taylor to be in the top five best players on the ground on Sunday, with 10+ marks and help keep the Eagles to eight goals or fewer.
The Winners (currently on 10 after R0 & R1)
Magpies
Not Crom
Doker
Demon
Swom
Suns
Pear
Big Big Sound
These predictions were all made with only Thursday Night teams released. Drop us your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned over the coming weeks to see how the Prophet goes with his predictions.
