R1 – Fremantle v Brisbane – The Big Questions

I’m not a betting man, but after 20 minutes of footy, I did wonder what sort of odds Fremantle were at to win this game against the Brisbane Lions.

They looked nowhere bloody near it!

As a matter of fact, for most of the first quarter, it looked as though this game was going to be a thrashing. The Lions were clinical, moving the ball from end-to-end quickly and effectively, whilst the Dockers played like a team that hadn’t touched the footy since August last year.

Fumbles, bumbles, stumbles… thy name was Fremantle, as the Lions capitalised on Dockers’ mistakes to kick the first four goals of the game before Freo were able to claw back to start splitting some contests and, eventually, snagged two late goals to make the scoreboard look respectable.

From there, it was like the teams swapped guernseys.

A pressure-packed Fremantle stopped the Lions dead in their tracks, as Caleb Serong, Luke Jackson, and Alex Pearce flexed some muscle and made the Lions look like spectators for long stretches of the game from that point.

It was a huge win for Fremantle, built on work erhic and belief. They needed a strong start to their 2024 season after the disappointment of 2023, and they got it.

Plenty to get through in this one – let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.

Oh what? A Mongrel paywall? Yep, my game reviews are behind the wall – sometimes I open them up after a day. Sometimes, I don’t. I like to give members value for their money.
