Gold Coast v Richmond – Quarter-By-Quarter

Both clubs came into this with a new coach, new game plans, and new hope for the 2024 season, and after an hour of footy, it was the Gold Coast Suns and Damien Hardwick standing tall, delivering a hammer blow to the Tigers with an 11-goal first half.

Richmond made a spirited comeback in the third term, reducing the margin to just over four goals, but the Suns steadied, with a helping hand from Dylan Grimes, to run out 39-point winners in what could be a sign of things to come for this group.

Matt Rowell was dominant. How else can you put what he did out there? Alongside Touk Miller and Noah Anderson, he gave the Suns a powerful presence at stoppages and looked like the best contested-footy player in the game in the process.

But enough preamble – let’s get into the nitty gritty of this one, as we go Quarter-By-Quarter.
