As the clock ticks down to the commencement of the opening round, there is a battle in the ruck brewing we have not seen for four years.
2019 was the last time Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn squared off in an AFL contest. Over four long years ago.
And it was Grundy who emerged victorious that day. Both his team, and him intheir individual battle.
Things are different now. Times have changed, and so have team colours for one of the combatants. Both players have walked very different paths… even the same path for a season. And now, Grundy gets his chance against the best big man in the game.
Does he still have it?
Does his presence elevate his Swans?
Can he still put one on the chin of Max Gawn, just as he did back in 2019? Or has Max simply put too much distance between the two big men?
I’ve always loved the battle within the battle, the story within the story, and Grundy v Gawn this Thursday night ticks a lot of boxes for me… bring it on!
Each week during the season, HB’s features, as well as regular columns, and some of our game reviews are restricted for our members. You can join if you want to.
As mentioned above, this is one of the members’ columns for the week. I believe my work is worth twenty-five cents per day. If you don’t, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
