Collingwood v St Kilda – The Mongrel’s Loves and Hates

In a great way to polish off Gather Round, the Pies were able to hold on to knock over the previously undefeated Saints, despite a late flurry.

Coming into this game, there was one way I thought the Pies would be able to bring the Saints undone – matching their pressure at the contest. Lo and behold, we saw a desperate Magpie unit throwing themselves into the contest and chasing/tackling/smothering like demons (the sort from the abyss, not the ones that crashed to the Bombers yesterday) for the majority of the game.

The Saints were plucky, and in true Ross Lyon style, were content in making the game a slog, but a few goals on the trot to open the final quarter gave the Magpies enough room to spread their wings and glide in to take the four points.

The Daicos boys did as they pleased again (I’ll get to this), and both Brody Mihocek and Bobby Hill gave the Pies great avenues to goal, as Collingwood registered win number four from the five rounds thus far.

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Loves and Hates of this one.
