This week’s marquee matchup in the AFL features the Grand Final rematch between the Cats and a Lions. Had you scheduled this clash in a few weeks ago, I don’t think many would have backed Geelong, but in light of the Cats recent form, suddenly, many are reconsidering.
They just do things differently at the Cattery. And it is not just that they do things differently in contrast to others teams – they have the ability to identify issues and make adjustments so they don’t repeat the mistakes made in years prior.
This past weekend was the first time the Cats have felt the need to really flex some muscle in the 2026 season. They’ve chugged along, doing what they always do – staying in touch, not making too many waves, and picking up wins to remain in contention. However, when the opposition had something to play for, and prepared themselves for a big game, it was Geelong who picked up the pace and demonstrated that those who were on the fence about them in 2026 might want to slip off to the Geelong side of that divider pretty quickly.
Just like that, the Cats gave the Pies the business, and moved to within percentage of the top four.
Again.
Just where they always seem to be – right in the thick of it.
The Cats are going nowhere but finals in 2026, and I would be willing to bet that when the whips are cracking deep into September, this club will once again be having plenty to say about who walks away with the flag.
This is just the introduction – the remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.
Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
