R9 – Geelong v Collingwood – The Big Statements

You know what I love about Geelong?

Popculcha Collectibles – great shop.

Know what else I love about Geelong?

They are party poopers. And they revel in being just that.

Coming into this game, I don’t know whether you were as sick to death of the continual adulation of Scott Pendlebury as I was, but the Cats approached the contest with a job to do, and a celebration of their own to hold. Yes, Pendles was about to equal the games record, set by Brent Harvey, but Geelong had one of their own notching 200 games, and it was the irrepressible Tom Stewart that was reaching that milestone.

You think they cared one iota that Pendles was breaking a record?

Nup, they had one of their boys to look after, and they played like they cared.

A theme you’re going to read about in this review revolves around pressure. Not selective pressure for ten minutes, or some pretty good inside 50 tackling, but also how to absorb it and beat that pressure when it comes.

Geelong were phenomenal in taking whatever the Pies could throw at them and ramming it back down their throats. Not many teams can do that.

The Cats can. It’s the third thing I love about Geelong.

On with the Big Statements.

This is just the introduction – the remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
