It was a given that Mason Cox would fill a gap on a list in 2026. Despite being delisted by the Pies, a 211 centimetre back up ruck with a track record of taking contested marks, was always something clubs would look at.
And it seems as though he has found the next, and likely final, destination of his career, at Fremantle.
Already, I have heard people chortle at the pending signing, mocking Fremantle’s decision to bring Cox onboard.
After all, he will turn 35 by the time the season is about to commence, and didn’t exactly cover himself in glory during the 2025 season with the Pies. But this is not about what has happened.
It is about what he could provide the Dockers.
And what he provides is the ability to stretch teams.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. Why? Because HB believes work such as this is worth a mere pittance per day. Whilst you could stick with Caro’s Arrow or Kane’s Vol-Kane-O, you’ll get your 500 words in the newspaper and be happy… when they’re not on holiday. The Mongrel NEVER stops. Trades, Free Agency, Draft, Stats, Pre-Season, Practice Games… we’re all in. You could dump the mainstream and dive articles like this. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
