Matchday Moments – A Tale of Two Coaches

If you paid close attention on the weekend, you may have noticed something. And it is something that one club will be pretty pleased about, while the other… well, it might worry them a little.

There is always a lot of chatter about coaches and whether they’re great tactical coaches, good developmental coaches, or just great at player management.

But it is the match day stuff that we see the most of, and it is in moments on the field, or sometimes, over the course of an entire game, that we start to form our own opinions of them.

This past weekend gave us the opportunity to make a direct contrast between two teams hopeful of playing in September. They didn’t play against each other, but what transpired during their own games, gave us a good insight into how they operate. It demonstrated what they’ll tolerate, and whether they’re willing to swing a move to change the way the game is playing out. Even if it is early in the game.

This weekend we saw Luke Beveridge coach against North Melbourne – an assignment he was expected to win.

Justin Longmuir had a tougher task, travelling to the SCG to face a rejuvenated Sydney Swans, but there was an area of the game that was eerily similar, and only one passed the test it presented.
