At this stage of last season, many were comparing Nick Daicos to the all-time greats of the game.
Some of us are a little premature… no names need be mentioned, right fellas… but we do tend to do that when a young player does some wonderful things. We get ahead of ourselves, and speculate about all the wonderful things they will accomplish.
However, are we now at the stage where we look at what he is doing this season and take a little step back on those thoughts? Even just a tiny one?
You see, whilst the Pies are flying, they are doing so without Daicos being the most dominant player on the park every week. That has come about via a mixture of opposition tactics and a couple of games where he hasn’t performed up to the level we’ve come to expect. However, as we head into Round 15, if there is one thing that is worrying me about the way the Pies are going about it this season, it’s that they have left Nick on an island when taggers come for him.
And I reckon it’s about time that stopped.
Oh… you thought The Mongrel just covers games and makes nice reels on Facebook for you to look at? No, no, no… HB works year-round, and he works for our members. He believes work such as this is worth a mere pittance per day. If you don’t, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
