R4 – Geelong v Melbourne – HB’s Beatles Medley

The Cats squared the ledger, moving to 2-2, and dropped the Dees to 0-4 in the process; their worst start since 2012.

Remember 2012? What a year that was for the club!

This struck me as a bit of a danger game for Geelong, as the unexpected loss to St Kilda kind of threw a bunch of pigeons in with them… or something like that, as they then had to travel to the Gabba to face the Lions. Very few would have had the Cats sitting at 1-2 after three games, but there they were. And playing a team with plenty to prove, it could have gone awry.

However, for all but a ten minute patch, the Cats controlled this contest. And that, in a nutshell, was what this game was really about – control. The Cats owned the footy. They took mark after mark, and denied the Dees access, only for Melbourne to ruin their own chances with some poor inside 50 deliveries.

Geelong may not have made the most of their own opportunities, particularly early in the game, but they did what they had to do, worked the ball forward to the evergreen captain, and rode his efforts to a 39-point win.

Plenty to get through in this one, and screw it – it’s a Friday night, I am here working and producing this review… I’m gonna have some fun by combining two of my loves.

Footy, and The Beatles.

A review, a medley, another Cats win.
