Professionalism Over Sentimentality – Was Brad Scott Right, Or Wrong?

Professionalism versus sentiment.

That’s what it came down to on Friday night, as the Bombers kissed their 2024 season goodbye for the final time, and with it, the chance to farewell Dyson Heppell in front of the Essendon supporters at Marvel Stadium.

Over the last couple of days, we’ve endured justification of the move to deny Heppell a final game this past weekend. He may still get a farewell game, but it will be in Brisbane on Saturday night, if it happens at all, and I cannot help but think the Bombers missed a golden opportunity to not only play a man that has given so much to the team, but to establish a culture where they honour those who have been pillars of the club.
