It can be difficult not to be swept up in the romanticism around Eddie Betts’ return to Carlton.

Despite the fact Betts had to go elsewhere in search of the kind of money he thought he was worth – and definitely proved to be during his Adelaide tenure – the move back to Carlton has many Blues fans feeling a genuine sense of excitement in terms of what 2020 could bring.

The Blues are a team of boys beginning to become men. They will welcome co-captain, Sam Docherty back onto the field for the first time since 2017 and after he finds his feet, should be much better for it. Players like Sam Petrevski-Seton, Zac Fisher and Paddy Dow should be ready to make the next step. Defenders Jacob Weitering and Caleb Marchbank will have another pre-season to build their bodies, increase their speed and strength and become more able to control the big forwards.
