What would an Adelaide versus Collingwood clash be without a little controversy?
What would an Adelaide versus Collingwood clash be without one set of supporters absolutely filthy with the umpires?
The recent history between the Pies and Crows has provided some of the more exciting contests of the past few years, and Collingwood have been the ones escaping with the four points.
Not this time.
After a first half when both teams looked a little reluctant to take the game on at times, it was the Crows who overcame the Pies to record a big road win at the MCG, and set up the early part of their season with a win over a high-quality opponent.
There have been a few who have jumped off the Crows in recent weeks, and during the game, we started to hear why.
“Interrupted preseasons,” they cried as the Magpies ran from defence in the last quarter and Adelaide started to slow.
“There’s a lot of stretching of calves,” added some other bozo.
Yeah, no shit guys – it’s the first game of the season. Did you miss the blokes in black and white doing the same thing?
Yes, Adelaide have lost players, and were starting this game without the suspended Izak Rankine, as well. However, they displayed a lot of heart to repel the expected Collingwood fightback and leave with their first win of the season.
Adelaide were more disciplined, punished Collingwood when they made an error, and capitalised on some poor decisions from the Magpies.
A heap to get through in this one. Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
The remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.
Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
