The A-Grader Ladder 2026

Well, it’s been over four years since I released an A-Grade Ladder, and my-oh-my, how things have changed.

Before I begin, I want to list a few criticisms of the last time I did one of these ladders.

Here’s a beauty to start with – Freo people got upset because I listed Caleb Serong as an A-Grader, but I refused to put Adam Cerra on the list. In a follow-up column, I made this statement.

“Here’s one you can quote me on. Caleb Serong will retire as twice the player Adam Cerra is.”

Nailed that one.

I was also informed that rating Zak Butters as an A-Grader was misguided. An interesting call. Others insisted that Jarryd Lyons should be rated as an A-Grader, and that Alex Keath should, as well.

Yep, that’s how I remember those blokes – absolute A-Graders, right?

Anyway, enough receipts – and really, how petty of me to keep them, right?

Let’s look forward and check out who hits the top of the A-Grade Ladder this season… after I simply forgot to publish it from 2022 through to 2025.

Oops.

The way it works is you get five points for an A-Grader, and two points for a potential A-Grader. No first-year players can be considered, irrespective of how good they look.

Let’s hope my rudimentary maths holds up.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re on the march to the 2026 AFL season and we’re working through the Match Sims, AAMI Series, and Player-specific articles… we’re all in. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consioder it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
