When you have a team losing two of their best big men, and despite what Carlton fans will now tell you, Tom De Koning and Charlie Curnow were two of their best big men, a club can get a bit of a funk about their place in the league.
Why were these players leaving? Did they not believe? Where were the Blues heading?
Add the departure of Jack Silvagni into the mix and things got a little smellier.
It is only when a marque player recommits to the club that things seem to get a little more fragrant, and with the news that Sam Walsh was ready to talk contract extension, the Blues have the opportunity to apply a bit of deodoriser to the club.
But is this the best move for the Baggers?
Is security now the driver for Walsh, given the past couple of injury-riddled seasons?
