If you follow international sports, you may be aware that the National Basketball Association in the USA is now in the midst of the largest gambling controversy in its history. Yes, even larger than when referee Tim Donaghy spent 15 months in prison for fixing NBA games around 15 years ago.
Current Miami Heat player, Terry Rozier, Portland Trailblazer coach and Finals MVP, Chauncey Billups, and former coach, Damon Jones have all been arrested after a four-year FBI investigation into gambling and links to crime.
The charges involve leaking of information to people regarding lineups and changes, as well as underperforming deliberately, or plotting to leave a game early with “injury” (great for unders betters!).
The word is that there are plenty more arrests to come.
“The tip of the iceberg,” according to some.
How does this tie in to the AFL?
