People will sink the boots into the Dockers after this game – it is the way of things.
However, we must remember who they were playing.
This was no contest against some unproven commodity. It was no clash against a team that has been shaky, and were suffering a lack of belief. No, this was the Brisbane Lions they ran into – the Road Warriors of the AFL, and the reigning bloody premiers of the competition.
I’m going to leave the hatchet job of the Dockers to those who thrive on hate. You know who they are – they’ll be on your TV, radio, and websites around the traps, telling you how Freo blew it. David King is already on X, having a crack at the coach.
My bet is they’ll barely mention the Lions.
That’s the problem with the AFL Media, isn’t it?
Sure, Fremantle shot themselves in the foot with their kicking at goal (or they tried to shoot themselves in the foot… and likely missed), but the pressure of the Lions, the relentless chasing and closing down of the easier avenues, combined with their own game of controlling the footy and refusing to kick to contests, left the Dockers looking slow and reactive.
With over 53 thousand in the house, the Lions demonstrated just why they remain the team to beat in the race to the 2025 flag, and showed us all just how Freo has to go if they plan on doing more than making up the numbers.
Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. Why? Because HB believes work such as this is worth a mere pittance per day. Whilst you could stick with Caro’s Arrow or Kane’s Vol-Kane-O, you’ll get your 500 words in the newspaper and be happy, or you could dive articles like this, clocking in around 3.3K words. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
