R21 – Brisbane v Collingwood – The Big Questions

On Friday night, we got to see a heavyweight clash between the Crows and the Hawks. It felt like a final, it looked like a final, and in the end, Adelaide emerged as the victor to sit atop the AFL ladder.

They’re going to be there when the whips are cracking.

I looked at that game as like the first serving of a sumptuous two-course meal (skip the entrée, just go for the two best servings!) And after enduring what the remainder of the competition served up as called footy, we had the main event of the weekend.

I was licking my chops!

That said, I’ve been guilty of putting too much weight on those contests billed as the match of the round, and that has left me feeling let down, at times. However, this one lived up to the hype, as the reigning champs flexed a bit of muscle and ensured that this was going to be the first round since Round 11, that Collingwood would not sit atop the AFL ladder. In doing so, gave themselves every chance to sneak in and pick up a top two finish.

The game was most notable for the six goals from Logan Morris, who turned 20 in May, and continues to grow and evolve into the player that will lead the Lions’ forward line over the next ten years. He is a bit shorter than Jonathon Brown, but there is plenty of the big fella in the way he attacks the footy.

The battle of the midfield see-sawed, with Nick Daicos starting fast, and Will Ashcroft finishing well. The difference here is that Ashcroft also had Hugh McCluggage and Lachie Neale to complement his efforts. Daicos did not have that same level of top-tier help.

I’ve got a heap of points to get through in this one, and it might be a long review. Not that you guys will be complaining. More value for your hard-earned.

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. Why? Because HB believes work such as this is worth a mere pittance per day. Whilst you could stick with Caro’s Arrow or Kane’s Vol-Kane-O, you’ll get your 500 words in the newspaper and be happy, or you could dive articles like this, at about 3.3K. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
