It was painfully apparent following the 2024 season, and the ensuing kerfuffle of the trade period, that there needed to be a concerted effort to address some healing at the Melbourne Football Club.
Players were feeling unloved, and with word that several wanted out, the Dees did their best to wrap their arms around their potentially wayward sons.
However, when the focus shifts from form and fitness to feelings, you start to see another f-word. It wasn’t finals.
It was The Fall.
And that fall comes in the form of the ability to play out games.
After Melbourne basically stood still for 30 minutes and squandered a 46-point lead to an inspired St Kilda team on the weekend, I started to wonder whether they’d made a bit of a habit of not playing out games this season.
What I found was… interesting, if nothing else.
