Well, we won’t be going back and watching this one again.
The Blues got the nod over the Saints in front of over 60,000 fans at the MCG on Friday Night Footy, but the game went from pretty entertaining to a slog after halftime.
The Saints got out early, with goals to Jack Higgins, and Max Hall, but the Blues fought back with Charlie Curnow and Jaxon Binns seeing the scores close at quarter time.
With both midfields slogging it out, the game become a bit of a stoppage fest… which is different to a sausage fest, for the record. The defences got on top, scoring dried up, and the eight goals in the first dropped to six in the second, and two in the third.
The pressure was high in the last, but Carlton never really seemed threatened. The Saints hung around, but every challenge they mounted was summarily repelled. Two goals apiece in the last saw the Blues run out 15-point winners.
Time to jump into The Mongrel Review from this one. And yeah, I may have been expecting a bit more, and may have seen some things I really didn’t like about this contest. Not sure how this one is going to go.
