A huge crowd of over 80,000 headed to the MCG to see traditional rivals butt heads once more, as the Hawks and Bombers locked horns in Round One.
And with their second win in as many starts, the Hawks have left no question that they are well and truly ready to live up to the hype in 2025.
The Bombers would not go away, and had a few things gone their way in the second half, may have given this one a shake, but every time Essendon came at them, Hawthorn found a way to respond.
It’s what good teams do. The Bombers threw a punch, and the Hawks would land one on their chin – right back at ya, baby!
Without key tall options, the Hawks’ small men went to work, both in attack and in defence, with players like Dylan Moore, Nick Watson, and Jack Ginnivan hitting the scoreboard, and Karl Amon and Jarman Impey wreaking havoc from defence. Despite the gap narrowing at points in the last quarter, the Hawks defied every challenge from the Bombers to run out 26-point winners.
