R1 – Richmond v Carlton – The Big Questions

Well, well, well… how was that for a team some people thought wouldn’t win a game all season?

You didn’t give them a chance, did you? Be honest… you’re amongst friends. Yes, friends who also didn’t give them a chance. I am thrilled to have got it so wrong!

In front of 80,000 fans at the MCG, the Tigers shocked the Blues, coming back from 41 points down to take control of the game and run out winners by 13 points.

How would Mark Bickley feel right now? He is on record with the “won’t win a game” claptrap. Matthew Lloyd floated the possibility of it just hours before the game, as well. Hell, even the most optimistic supporters thought that wins would be few and far between, so to see the veterans step up, the kids make a statement, and the players who the Tigers were hoping would make a jump, take that big stride… I had goosebumps in the last quarter as Richmond surged the footy forward and caused mistake after mistake from the Carlton mids and defenders.

It was unexpected. It was eye-opening. And it was damn fun to watch and analyse.

I cannot wait to get into this one.

Let’s be honest – last week was the AFL’s false start.

With nine games scheduled for Round One, this is where it all really begins – for all. And what a bloody way to start.

Here’s The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
