It’s funny how passion can drive a group. And it is just as funny how a lack of it can bring a professional team undone.
As much as look at this game as a “pre-season hit out”, it clearly meant a hell of a lot to one side, and perhaps not the other.
I can remember back in teh first season of the Adelaide Crows in the AFL, and after their first game, where they gave the reigning premier, Hawthorn, a belting, the opposition coach was interviewed, and he said “it would have taken a lot more than the Hawthorn Football Club to stop the Crows today.”
I kind of feel the same about this group in this game.
With just three days together as a team, the Indigenous All-Stars brought the heat, and it was clear that Fremantle either couldn’t, or weren’t willing to match it.
Given that, the result went as you’d expect.
With a plethora of lightning fast players, the run-and-gun All-Stars were a far superior unit to the Dockers, who seemed to get in each other’s way as often as they combined well.
Time to jump into The Mongrel’s Good, Bad, and Ugly from this one.
