When I started working on this article, Mrs Mongrel asked me what I was writing about.
“Your mate,” I responded.
“Jake Stringer?” she questioned, before adding “… gross.”
And that about summed up some of the messages I got from some of our readers after the Giants picked up Stringer at the tail end of the 2024 AFL Trade Period. In essence, the GWS Giants took a gamble. Maybe an unpopular one, at the time.
After two seasons back in the premiership window, the Giants decided that taking a punt on Jake Stringer, and offering him the two-year deal he believed he was worth, could be the move that finally secures them that first elusive premiership.
