Sometimes, you come into a game with expectations and hopes.
They’re very different things.
Heading into this game, I expected the Bulldogs to be too good for North. I expected them to win the game, and flex a bit of muscle. I expected their midfield to be too strong, given the absence of Harry Sheezel, and I expected North to put up a fight before being run over.
Yes, they were the expectations, but in truth, I hoped for a little bit more.
I hoped North would take it right up the Dogs. I hoped that they would scrap and fight, and make the Dogs work for everything. And I hoped we’d see the Dogs challenged to the point they had to dig deep to respond.
Well, my expectations of the Dogs were exceeded and my hopes for the Kangaroos were thoroughly dashed, as the men from the Whitten Oval put on a clinic and dismantled a North Melbourne team that is clearly dying for the final siren to ring on the 2024 season.
It was three parts brilliance from the Dogs, mixed with one part ineptitude from the Roos, and when you get a combination like that, a triple-figure margin is about right.
