How do you choose to assess this game?
Is it that you prefer to focus on the incredible second half effort from Port Adelaide, elevating their pressure to run over the top of the Blues and pick up their best road win of the season?
Or do we look at it from the Carlton perspective, left without two of their three key forwards and coming off a five-day break, unable to run the game out as fatigue hit?
People will choose their own narrative, and it will usually be the one that favours their team. However, as an impartial viewer, it was the former that was the story for me. This was Port’s night.
It was Ken Hinkley and the Power hitting the road, playing a team that sits second on the ladder, and grinding their way to a win.
It was Port, trusting their key defenders to do the job, absorbing Carlton’s best shots, and watching them take control of the game after half-time.
And it was the ability of the Port Adelaide team to fire without their stars having huge games. Connor Rozee was ordinary. As was Zak Butters. Both of them had to contend with attention from Alex Cincotta over the course of the evening, which drastically impacted their ability to influence the game.
Yes, there are quite a few stories coming out of the excellent Port win at Marvel Stadium – a place that holds no fear for them. Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions review.
