Earlier this week, I wrote an article detailing just how important this game was to the Bulldogs. If you’rea a member, you can read it HERE
Facing a Carlton team that has displayed powerful bursts of footy, and put teams away with withering 20-minute blasts of footballing power, I feared the Dogs’ lack of genuine key defenders would render them easy pickings for the Blues’ big forwards.
And for a while, it appeared as though those fears would be realised, as Harry McKay started to get off the chain early.
At the other end, it was Jacob Weitering dominating Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, and whilst the Blues only managed to kick three goals for the quarter, it felt like they were the better side.
And then… it all changed.
After kicking 0.7 in the first quarter, the Dogs kicked 7.2 in the second. Carlton found themselves on the back foot for the second week in a row, and the Dogs knew then and there that this games was up for grabs.
In a crazy season, where the race for the top eight is as tight as it’s ever been, things just got that little bit tighter, with the Dogs picking up perhaps their best win of the season.
In that article earlier in the week, I asked whether the Dogs would resemble diamonds, or lumps of coal after their game this week.
They’re shining right now.
Brightly.
