R16 – Brisbane v Melbourne – The Big Statements

The Dees threw everything at the Lions on the road, and Brisbane did just about everything they could to lose it, but in the end, the home team moved back inside the top eight, knocking over Melbourne with a last gasp win at the Gabba.

The game came down to a superb set shot from Hugh McCluggage, who told Joe Daniher (who was trying to take the “insufficient intent” free kick from the boundary) to move on. They were the actions of a confident man, and he was confident for a good reason.

Clug went back and calmly slotted the goal to give the Lions a six-point advantage, and despite some desperate attempts from the Dees in the ensuing minute and a half, it proved to be enough, with Brisbane holding on to win by five points in a thriller.

We’ve got a heap to cover in this one – not all great for the Lions, and not all bad for the Dees. Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Statements.
