It was a night that was always going to tell a big story.
The Blues, one of the big fancies for the flag, were coming off their bye and looking like a team on the rise. On the flip side, you had the Cats. After a fast start, they have fallen back to the pack, and are looking very shaky. Maybe the bye was what they needed?
Evidently not.
This game had plenty. The Blues jumped the Cats before Geelong fought back, but from quarter time onwards, it was Carlton’s game, played on their terms, with plenty of stars on display.
We got the De Koning Battle Royal, with the big brother strutting his stuff on the big stage. We got the dominance of Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh around the contest. We got a Geelong team that were shown up all over the ground. And we got Alex Cincotta having Tom Stewart moved off him after locking down on the five-time All-Australian.
And sadly, we had Tom Hawkins limp off the ground, and on crutches by the end of the game. Fingers crossed he gets to go out on his own terms and this is not the thing that ends a wonderful career.
Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
