R15 – Brisbane v Port Adelaide – HB’s Loves and Hates

There are some very concerning signs right now. Not just for Port Adelaide, but for every team eyeing off a spot in the finals.

After a first half of the season where Brisbane appeared to be slumbering, the Lions have started to roar again.

Maybe not like Simba at the end of The Lion King, but there is a growl there – low and threatening. And with their most complete outing of the season, dealing Port Adelaide a 79-point thumping, those who wrote this club off earlier in the year may now be ready to reconsider their opinions.

The Lions pounced on a fumbling, bumbling version of the Power, capitalising on a team that did not seem anywhere near cohesive. They ramped up the pressure, hit the contest hard, and challenged Port to elevate their game.

And the Power failed in that challenge.

With Oscar McInerney controlling things in the ruck, and the key forwards completely outclassing the inept-looking Port Adelaide defence, Brisbane were clearly the better side on the day, so much so that the scoreboard probably flattered the Power just a bit.

What does a game such as this say about the two teams?

Where are they at as we start to turn for home in the 2024 AFL season?

And are we seeing the reawakening of a powerhouse that just hasn’t been able to put it all together… yet?

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Loves and Hates of this clash, and let’s be honest, it will not be a very pleasant read for Port fans.
