I’m not going to sit here and tell you this was a classic game of Aussie Rules Footy. As a matter of fact, the first half of the game had very few highlights, with the Dees and Saints seemingly going through the motions to combine for just nine goals.
Melbourne were in control, but the scoreboard indicated that the Saints, despite an effort that I can only describe as listless, were still in the hunt, trailing by just two goals.
That all changed after the main break, as the Dees dropped the hammer and rammed home their dominance, slotting six goals to one in the third quarter to break the game open.
From there, the game played out as you’d expect. The third quarter was the difference, almost to the extent that Max Gawn’s dominance over Rowan Marshall was the difference.
A 38-point margin probably flattered the Saints a little in the end.
