R8 – Collingwood v Carlton – The Big Questions

In front of the largest crowd to witness a home and away clash between the teams, it came down to the wire, a stoppage, and a superstar.

Still think it’s too early to give Nick Daicos that mantle?

Think again.

With the game on the line, Daicos was matched up against another young star, and one that had been in red-hot form, Sam Walsh. As the ball was thrown into the air, Daicos took off, his it at pace, controlled it beautifully, and kicked the game winner across his body to the delight of the Magpie Army in the stands. And Walsh was five metres behind him.

It is testament to how good Daicos is in year three. On a team with players like Scott Pendlebury, Darcy Moore, and Bobby Hill, Daicos was the star amongst stars, taking the bit between his teeth and standing up in the moment.

Were the Pies the better team for the whole game?

No, the momentum swung back and forth for periods in this one, with the Blues getting out to a fast start before Collingwood reeled them in. Neither team was able to put too much distance between them and their opposition, and you just knew this one was going to go down to the wire.

And it is in those moments that the stars shine brightest.

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
