R2 – Port Adelaide v Richmond – The Big Statements

After a first half riddled with errors, turnovers, and mistakes, it became obvious that someone had to stand up and shift the game into another gear.

In Travis Boak’s 350th game, both teams had players capable of doing just that, with Shai Bolton wielding significant influence in the second quarter, Dustin Martin looking dangerous, and Connor Rozee finding plenty of the footy.

But it was Zak Butters who made the biggest difference, as he completely took over the game after halftime to give the Power exactly what they needed.

From there, the Tigers fought hard, but the continued excellence of Butters, and the rise in the precision of the Port Adelaide kicking game carried the visitors to a big road win.

Wins at the MCG are vital for Non-Victorian teams, and with a high-quality second half, Port racked up the first of hopefully a few this season.

Sorry – that concludes the free section of the article. The remainder is for our members – see below.

Oh what? A Mongrel paywall? Yep, my game reviews are behind the wall – sometimes I open them up after a day. Sometimes, I don’t. I like to give members value for their money. I believe my work is worth twenty-five cents per day. If you don’t, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
