The GWS Giants talked a big game in the week leading up to their season-opener against the reigning premiers… or at least their social media team did. And then the team went out and backed it up on the “showground for livestock”, knocking over Collingwood by 32 points to kick start the season.
The Giants got a huge lift from their midfield, with Tom Green, Stephen Coniglio, and Josh Kelly finding plenty of it, whilst their defence did what they did all last year – played solid footy and limiting the Magpies to just nine marks inside 50 for the game. Up forward, Callum Brown snagged five, whilst Jesse Hogan was a force in his own right, snagging four.
The only downside for the Giants was the shoulder injury incurred by Callan Ward, which will postpone his 300th game for a little while.
Let’s jump into The Big Questions stemming from the big GWS win over Collingwood.
