GWS v Port Adelaide – The Semi Final Big Questions

The big, big sound got just a little but louder in 2023, as the Giants rolled over the Power at the Adelaide Oval to move into their fourth Preliminary Final in their short AFL life.

Built on a fantastic clearance game and a spread from stoppage that made Port’s mids look glued to the ground like climate protesters, GWS were harder at the footy and faster to get on their bikes into open space, placing the Port defence under enormous pressure.

GWS established what turned out to be a match-winning lead in the second quarter, rattling off five straight goals. It could have been worse, too. GWS then went on to miss six shots to end the quarter, heading into the main break with a handy 29-point lead.

From there, the Giants retained control. Port landed a few flurries, but were never able to truly hit a knockout blow, and every time they seemed to be winding up to do so, the Giants were able to answer and put one on their chin.

Heaps to get through in this one, as the AFL’s Road Warriors notched another win away from home and now eye off a huge Friday night clash against the Pies at the MCG.

Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Big Questions.
