Brisbane v Richmond – Mongrel Talking Points

Perhaps they should rename the ground the Gabbatoir if results like this continue.

The Brisbane Lions slaughtered Richmond as they flexed their muscles and inflicted the Tigers’ heaviest loss since before the golden age of premierships and deep finals runs.

Powered by a dominant midfield contingent, and with a plethora of avenues to goal, Brisbane were able to control all aspects of the game en route to their 81-point win that threatened to move into triple figures in the last quarter.

The Lions hammered the Tigers at stoppages, finishing the game +24 in that stat and won the centre clearances with monotonous regularity, finishing with a 22-5 advantage. That is just… ridiculous.

Brisbane had winners everywhere, whereas Richmond’s best performer had five goals kicked on him – it was that sort of night.

Was it the curse of the bye? Or is that just a convenient out for a team that were dismantled by a better, more disciplined, and committed unit?

Plenty to get through in this one. I’ll jump into the best for the Lions and address some issues for the Tigers as we look at The Mongrel Talking Points.
