The Silly-Season is almost upon us – feels like just days since the Lions walked off with the premiership, right?
Already, players are nominating clubs that are their preferred destination, and those clubs are talking down what their potential acquisition is worth. Meanwhile, supporters of the clubs the players are leaving suddenly value them as if they fartef gold dust.
So, where is the true value for these players? Who do you believe, and what will they ultimately go for?
Really, a player is only worth what the new club is willing to pay for him. Much to the chagrin of supporters, touting two first-round picks for a player that hasn’t been named as an All-Australian or won a Best and Fairest, is just a pipe dream.
So, being the unbiased fella I am, I thought I’d have a look at some of the situations as we head toward trade week, and what teams are asking, versus what they’re likely to get.
